Jason Hawker

Jason Hawbaker, MS, LCMHC

Integrative Therapist

“My goal is to build a solid therapeutic connection with each CooperRiis resident I work with; I consider that a fundamental cornerstone in their recovery.”

Jason joins CooperRiis with a varied background and experience.

He has worked in a military-style boot and hat corps on a mobile wagon train in Arizona, in community mental health, in a day treatment program, and as a clinician advocating for persons to gain access to services for their independent living.

Jason graduated from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice; his goal was to work with troubled youth to give them a second chance.

Changes in his life led him to attend graduate school. He earned a Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lenior Rhyne University, Asheville Campus, in May 2016.

One of Jason’s favorite coping strategies is crocheting. “It allows me to be creative while producing something I can give as gifts to others.”

He was “Person of the Week” on a local TV station in January 2019. And he continues to crochet hats and scarves for people in need.

Jason has lived in Western North Carolina since January 2012 with his husband and their sweet baby boy, Milo.
