CooperRiis is thrilled to announce the addition of integrative psychiatrist Ilona Csapo, MD to the Asheville campus at 85 Zillicoa Street in Asheville, North Carolina.
Csapo (pronounced “Chapo”), as she prefers to be called, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth
College in 1993 and her Medical Degree in 2002 from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. She completed a general psychiatry residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2006. She has been a certified Suboxone provider since 2004 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and certified with the American Board of Addiction Medicine. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the North Carolina Medical Society.
Csapo relayed, “I am thrilled to be working at CooperRiis – a program that approaches recovery from a perspective of wellness. Working within the medical model for so many years, I found that people either had no time, no interest, or no funding to incorporate complimentary approaches to healing. I look forward to being able to incorporate these elements into my practice at CooperRiis”.
Managing Director at CooperRiis Asheville, Debbie O’Neil notes, “I recognized quickly in our initial interviews with Dr. C that she was a person who adhered to an egalitarian belief system, a quality that is well matched with CooperRiis core values. She is clearly compassionate, engaged, and passionate about making a difference in the life of a person experiencing a mental health challenge. She is going to be a huge asset to our team”.
Previous to moving to Western North Carolina, Csapo lived in New Mexico and worked for a community- based mental health center for Native Americans called First Nations Community Healthsource. She also worked in New Mexico at an addiction clinic, which is also where she completed her in-patient residency.
Four years ago, Csapo moved to Western North Carolina, where she met her partner Danyale and founded the Asheville Counseling and Wellness Center. Csapo tells us that when she first moved to the area, she saw our website and wanted to work for us immediately. It is our luck, that four years later, she has finally joined our team!
As Csapo was interviewed for this announcement, she was waiting for the rain to let up so she could get out for a mountain bike ride during her lunch hour. In addition to biking, Csapo loves to hike and run and is a general outdoor enthusiast. She and her partner Danyale are kept busy by their lovely and energetic 7-year old twin boys who attend school in Asheville as well as their Wolfhound, Sam, who is a constant hiking companion.
Dr. Ilona Csapo will be joining the CooperRiis Asheville team on October 8th, 2013.
